Protest Panties is an ongoing conceptual series by artist She Serves Whiskey, transforming intimate apparel into a quiet revolution. What began as a playful nod to the phrase “pull up your big girl panties” has become a poetic and political body of work—one that examines strength through softness, protest through intimacy, and resistance through beauty.

The latest iteration, For Felix, draws inspiration from the late artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres, whose minimalist works were acts of silent protest against inequality and erasure. In direct conversation with his “Untitled” (Go-Go Dancing Platform) and the billboards that bore “the trace of human presence,” She Serves Whiskey presents a pair of Lamé Silver Go-Go Dancing Shorts, creased and imperfect from their packaging. These folds become a subtle metaphor for touch, memory, and absence—a material echo of Felix’s tender defiance.

Rooted in the pure essence of Dada and the readymade, Protest Panties transforms the familiar into the profound. By recontextualizing undergarments as objects of art, She Serves Whiskey dismantles the divide between the utilitarian and the symbolic, the feminine and the political. Her work wields humor, irony, and sincerity in equal measure, turning personal experience into universal critique.
